In cooperation with two local fire departments, the nonprofit Northern Illinois Fire Sprinkler Advisory Board will host live fire and sprinkler burn demonstrations today.

The demonstration will take place at the Coal City and Channahon fire protection district open houses, which are being held as part of national Fire Prevention Week, which concludes Saturday.

The Open House in Coal City is being held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Station 1, 35 S. DeWitt Place, Coal City. The fire and sprinkler burn demonstration will be held at approximately 1 p.m.

The Open House in Channahon will take place at Station 1, 24929 S. Center St., Channahon, from noon to 3 p.m., with the demonstration at 2 p.m.

The fire sprinkler demonstration displays the dramatic difference between fires in sprinklered and unsprinklered rooms. It is a vivid visualization of the tremendous speed of a typical home fire and its potential for deadly destruction.

Also illustrated is the vital importance of home fire sprinkler technology that can save lives and reduce property damage.
