Mr. August B. "Augie" Black, 97, of Morris, Ill., died Saturday, Oct 20, 2012.
Visitation will be at Immaculate Conception Church, 516 East Jackson St., Morris, from 1 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24.
A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at Immaculate Conception Church at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 25. Burial will be at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Morris.
Augie was born in Morris on Aug, 1, 1915, the son of Frank Black and Kate (Ryan) Black. He graduated from Morris High School in 1933, attended St. Viator’s College, and graduated from the University of Illinois College of Law in 1940. He was admitted to the practice of law in 1940.
Mr. Black served 51 months in the U.S. Army during World War II as a special military intelligence agent.
Augie and his brother, John Black, formed the law partnership of Black & Black in 1947. Black & Black has continued with sons George, Frank, Donald, Richard and James, along with grandsons Timothy and Bryan Black.
Augie Black was elected state’s attorney of Grundy County in 1948. He was re-elected three times, for 16 years of public service. He became president of the Illinois State’s Attorney’s Association.
Augie married Marie Weber of Bellwood, Ill., Oct. 19, 1944. He is survived by Marie and their 9 children, George, Don (Kathy), Frank, Jean, Ed, Linda, Jim (Marifran), Michael (Tricia), and Richard. Also surviving are his sister, Sister Lorraine Black, Sisters of The Holy Cross, Notre Dame, Ind.; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Augie was predeceased by his parents; his sisters, Alice Watters, Marie Watson, Agnes Olson, Sister Antonella and Sister Anna, Sisters of the The Holy Cross; and his three brothers, George, John and Ed.
Augie was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Grundy County Historical Society, Union League Club of Chicago, The Thoreau Society, Knights of Columbus, American Chesterton Society and Immaculate Conception Church.
As a lawyer, he was a member of the Grundy County Bar, Illinois State Bar, Wisconsin State Bar, and American Bar Association. He maintained his law license for 72 years.
Augie also authored “My Briefs on Life,” a booklet of quotations.
Any memorial can be to a charity of the donor’s choice.
