COLLEGE: Lizalek inducted into national honor society
Student welcomed to Phi Eta Sigma at Oct. 12 ceremony
WAVERLY, Iowa — Wartburg College inducted 93 students into Phi Eta Sigma, the national honor society for college freshmen, during an Oct. 12 ceremony.
Jason Lizalek of Channahon, son of Jerry and Janet Lizalek, was one of the Wartburg students inducted.
Phi Eta Sigma is the oldest and largest freshman honor society with membership at more than 756,000.
A student must achieve a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.5 and be in the top 20 percent of their class by the end of the first year of college.
Wartburg is a four-year, selective liberal arts college of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. The college enrolls 1,747 students from 29 U.S. states and 53 countries.
Vogen among candidates for WIU Homecoming Royalty
Jess Vogen of Morris was one of the Royalty candidates who were voted on for Western Illinois University’s 2012 Homecoming King and Queen.
Voting was held online and the winner was crowned Thursday, Sept. 20 at a rally in Western Hall.
The theme for this year’s celebration is 2012 “Cirque Du Western, The Carnival Never Ends.”
Vogen is a senior majoring in elementary education. She is sponsored by Higgins Hall.
Vogen is involved with tutoring children at a local learning center. She is a member of the Student Education Association and is a residence assistant at Higgins Hall.
