Seven new members were inducted into the Morris Hospital Foundation Legacy Society when the group gathered for its annual reception on Friday, Oct. 12.
The Legacy Society was established in 2005 to recognize those who have committed to providing a bequest or other testamentary contribution to the Morris Hospital Foundation through a will, trust, or other estate planning vehicle, as well as a charitable gift annuity. The new inductees bring the total membership to 71.
The Whitman 1 conference room at Morris Hospital was transformed into a Parisian Bistro for the special evening, which featured décor by volunteer Sandy Cannon and French hors d’oeuvres and desserts prepared by Morris Hospital’s Nutrition Services Department.
Mark Steadham, president & CEO of Morris Hospital, welcomed the guests and thanked his fellow Legacy Society members for their commitment to Morris Hospital. Vice President of Development Ginny Kelly gave remarks about Jim Peterson, the first president of the Morris Hospital Foundation and Legacy Society member, who recently passed away.
Peterson was remembered for his leadership in helping the Morris Hospital Foundation establish a mission, bylaws and a board, as well as helping foster the respectful, supportive relationship, which the Foundation and Hospital enjoy today.
In keeping with tradition, new members were then inducted, each receiving a Legacy Society pin. Inductees included: Morris Hospital Specialty Radiology Technologist Jim Boma and his wife, Barb, pinned by Development Officer Julie Wilkinson; Mark Finn, pinned by his wife Becky Talty Finn; and Ernest and Nancy Lindsay, Morris Hospital Chief Operating Officer Patrick O’Connor and his wife Annette, and Vice President of Human Resources Erin Murphy-Frobish, all pinned by Ginny Kelly. New member Joan Harrop was recognized in absentia and another was recognized anonymously.
Foundation Board and Legacy Society member Becky Talty Finn led the storytelling portion of the evening. Talty Finn spoke of the way Morris Hospital has been there through two generations of her family. Staff and physicians are her friends and neighbors and repeatedly go above and beyond when providing care.
In closing, she was joined by her husband Mark and brother Ken Talty in presenting a $5,000 donation from Talty Chevrolet Buick Cadillac & GMC in memory of their father, William F. Talty. The gift will benefit the new cardiac catheterization lab at Morris Hospital.
Following the remarks, Cardiology Manager Mark Decker gave the guests a tour of the Hospital’s new cardiac cath lab.
