More than 59 million viewers tune in for final presidential debate
(MCT) — WASHINGTON — Television viewers appear addicted to the drama that is the presidential race.
An estimated 59.2 million people tuned in to watch the final debate between President Barack Obama and GOP challenger Mitt Romney on Monday night, despite strong competition from Monday Night Football and Game 7 of Major League Baseball’s National League Championship Series.
That’s a drop of less than 10 percent from the number of people who watched the candidates’ previous showdown on Oct. 16, when an estimated 65.6 million viewers watched, according to Nielsen.
The first debate of the general election drew more than 67 million viewers on Oct. 3.
All three debates this year have drawn bigger audiences than the face-offs between Obama and Sen. John McCain in the 2008 race.
