Two people severely injured during dog attack in Bloomington

(MCT) — BLOOMINGTON — Two people were mauled by dogs Wednesday afternoon outside an east-side Bloomington apartment building.

One person was delivering phonebooks about 1 p.m. at 1216 Orchard Road when two dogs attacked, Bloomington police spokesman Dave White said. A second person came to the first victim’s aid and also was attacked, he said.

“They were severely injured, but it was not life-threatening,” White said, later adding, “There was a lot of blood.”

Neighbors said the first victim was a woman and the second was a man, and they apparently had children with them. They said the incident happened on steps in front of an apartment’s outside entrance.

The victims were taken to a hospital, he said. Both were adults, but White had no other details on the victims.

The two dogs were seized by animal control officials, but White said he did not know their breeds.

No charges were filed against the dogs’ owner, but the incident remains under investigation.
