CJHS students benefit from CPD facilities
CHANNAHON — For the past nine years, seventh- and eighth-grade students from the Channahon Junior High School have been using the Dimensions Fitness Center and the Heritage Crossing Field House track during their physical education classes.
This is part of a cooperative agreement between the Channahon Park District and the Channahon School District 17.
“The school district is using the fitness center during their P.E. classes once a month to introduce the students to the machines and different methods of staying fit,” physical education teacher Sue Davis said. “I am very glad to see high schoolers and college aged students return to use the fitness center after they graduate from the Channahon Jr. High School.”
Students also use the indoor track twice a month in a competition between the classes to see who can run the highest average of laps in 12 minutes.
It is the hope of the park district and the school district that exposing students to various fitness activities will help develop lifetime skills that they can enjoy and utilize in their daily lives.
The Dimensions Fitness Center is a 3,000-square-foot facility that is home to 19 pieces of cardiovascular equipment, comprised of treadmills, elliptical trainers, bicycles and more.
The Heritage Crossing Field House offers 37,000-square-feet of community recreation space, including a full-sized gymnasium, fitness center, a three-lane suspended walking/running track and more.
