(MCT) — Winnetka police have charged six New Trier High School students as juveniles with distributing inappropriate photos via text and email.

Joe Pellus, Winnetka deputy police chief, declined to say how many victims were involved or describe why the images were inappropriate. The students were charged Oct. 25, police said.

New Trier High School spokeswoman Nicole Dizon declined to comment on disciplinary matters regarding specific students. In an email, she responded generally to questions about how the school might prevent future incidents from happening.

"Student safety is a fundamental priority at New Trier, and we continue to discuss with our students the consequences and permanency of actions involving the Internet, social media, texting or other forms of electronic communication," Dizon wrote.
