GAVC students raise $1,592 for Alzheimer’s Walk

“That’s how the students get their hands on experience and get to know the patients who suffer with Alzheimer’s or dementia, and clearly they have an interest,” Squellati said.

At the walk, students also learned that 210,000 Illinois residents have Alzheimer’s and 5.4 million Americans have the disease.

“The more people we can help, it will be a better place for them and the people around them,” said Cesar Saavedra, senior at Morris High School and second-year student in Health Occupations.

Walkers were given flower yard ornaments to dedicate to loved ones, and many of the students dedicated them to family members or in honor of the Morris nursing homes.
