Bicyclist hit by car, taken to hospital

Driver of Chrysler cited for not having insurance

A bicyclist was taken to Morris Hospital Monday following a a crash with a vehicle.

According to the Morris Police Department crash report, at about 8 a.m. Monday, Nov. 5, an officer responded to an accident involving a bicyclist with injuries in the 100 block of E. Waverly Street and N. Division Street in Morris.

There, the officer observed the bicyclist, identified as James L. More, 55, of 520 W. Illinois Avenue, lying in the cross walk with his bicycle lying against the curb.

A witness who stopped told police she helped take the bike off of More and placed it there.

Nearby, a 2004 Chrysler Concorde was parked on Waverly Street. The driver, Azucena L. Sanchez, 31, said she was stopped behind the stop line at the intersection, waiting to make a right turn onto Division Street.

She said she started to slowly move forward while looking to the north for traffic, when she struck More, who told police he was traveling north on the sidewalk.

More told police he saw Azucena stopped behind the stop line and talking on her cell phone. He thought he could cross the street , but her vehicle drove forward and struck his left leg. He said he fell from his bicycle, striking his shoulder, hip and his head on the road.

He was taken to the hospital for his reported injuries. Azucena was cited for operating an uninsured vehicle.
