ComEd: Wind, rain to blame for outages
More than 370 Morris ComEd customers impacted by outage
A storm system that moved through Morris Sunday knocked out power for a portion of residents, but did not pack much of a punch otherwise, according to area officials.
According to John Schoen, spokesman for ComEd, outages affected about 376 customers in Morris, but at the peak of the storm, about 25,000 ComEd customers throughout the Chicagoland were without power.
"It was pretty widespread," Schoen said. "We were spread out in a lot of areas working on restoration efforts."
He said the outages were connected to the strong wind and rain throughout the area.
"It's the typical impact of a pretty significant wind storm," he said. "We had outages in all of our service areas from the beginning of the storm. I think it was a bigger storm than people were anticipating."
Schoen couldn't give specifics as to why some Morris residents reported several hours without power, but he said the amount of time the power is out is tied to how much damage there is — how many downed lines, trees and the extent of the damage to equipment. Outage maps showed Monday that the Morris area was back online.
"Some areas clearly got hit harder than other areas," he said.
Morris first responders reported a fairly quiet day. Morris Fire and Ambulance Protection District Chief Tracey Steffes said the department responded to a downed power line near LyondellBasell, but that was mostly it.
"It was pretty uneventful," he said.
