Slot machines at horse tracks necessary to preserve business

To the Editor:

I’m a horse trainer, and I’m losing money and business.

Without Senate Bill 1849, I might have to leave our state and give my business to places like Indiana and Iowa.

I don’t want to race in other states. I’ve been an Illinoisan all my life, I pay my taxes and I’ve never missed an election.

Senate Bill 1849 would allow slot machines at existing Illinois horse tracks.

Other states like Indiana have slots and that helps their purse money. Without those slots, our state simply can’t compete, it’s not a level playing field.

Here in Illinois, we’re in dire need, and I don’t understand why our leaders won’t help us.

I’d rather go out of business, than have to go to neighboring states to race. But if Springfield passes SB 1849, I can stay and keep doing the job I love.
