Morris girls hold off Indian Creek in hoops
It may not exactly go into the record books as a work of art, but for the Morris girls basketball team it’s a win.
Indian Creek came to town to face the Redskins in a non-conference game and gave the hosts a run for their money. The Timberwolves trailed the entire game until 5:33 remained to be played in the fourth quarter before taking a brief one-point lead. The locals were able to stave off the charge, though, and responded by holding off their guests to win by a 48-44 score.
“The way we have been struggling, the team could have put their heads down and gave up but they didn’t,” Morris coach Luke Windy said of his team’s stay-with-it attitude with a little more than five minutes to play. “I think the next possession after they took the lead, we scored and got the lead right back. We executed down the stretch. After the timeout, Ashley hit a big three and I think that was the turning point in the game.”
