Workforce Services helping local people

Woman gets back to work with help from academic plan

Grundy Workforce Services, located at 1715 N. Division St., Morris, is successfully helping local residents find employment in tough economic times. Here is one of those success stories:

Sarah had been working in design and drafting for more than 15 years, when she was laid off and faced unemployment. Her job search effort was challenging considering the economic times and her knowledge of current AutoCad programs. She learned of the Grundy Workforce Services office and was interested in their free scholarships to help pay for training.

Sarah met with a JJC/Grundy Workforce Services Advisor and created an academic plan to complete coursework necessary to meet industry/employer expectations in today’s job market.

After being laid off for over a year and gaining the training necessary, Sarah recently accepted a full-time position in the metal manufacturing industry as a CAD designer.

Going to school and showing that on a resume, I believe is a great help in locating a job,” Sarah said. Sarah had identified a need to enhance her knowledge of AutoCad to be viable in the workplace.  She made the decision to return to the classroom in order to reach her career goals.

When asked about the scholarship and referring others to the Grundy Workforce Services office, Sarah says “Absolutely!  There are various workshops that are offered. The staff keeps in regular contact with telephone calls and email. It’s a wonderful opportunity.”

The Grundy Workforce Services office is operated by Joliet Junior College and funded by the Grundy Livingston Kankakee Workforce Board.

The Workforce Board oversees and sets policy for workforce development and training programs for Grundy, Livingston and Kankakee Counties.

It is one of 26 such local boards across the State of Illinois.  The Grundy Workforce Services office is located 1715 N. Division Street in Morris.
