Heartland Blood Centers holds area blood drives this month

In celebration of January National Blood Donor Month, Heartland Blood Centers, an independent not-for-profit blood center serving 47 hospitals in a 12-county region in Illinois and Indiana, invites all healthy members of the community to share their good health through blood donation.

January is the highest transfusion month of the year as patients who can delay their non-emergency surgeries and treatments do so until after the holidays.

All community members are encouraged to attend the following blood drives:

• MORRIS —  Saturday, Jan. 5, from 8 a.m. to noon, a at Healthsmart Fitness Center, 110 W. Waverly.

• DIAMOND — Monday, Jan. 7, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Chrome Rack Bar And Grill, 3002 E. Division St. (Illinois 113). Call the Chrome Rack at (815) 458-9400 or sign up online at www.heartlandbc.org to reserve preferred donation time. Every donor will receive a $10 Target Gift Card. Walk-ins welcome; appointments preferred. Please bring a photo ID and eat a good meal before donating. Donors who are 16 years old must also bring a Heartland permission slip signed in ink by a parent or guardian.  Permission slips available at the Chrome Rack or online at www.heartlandbc.org.

• BRAIDWOOD — Monday, Jan. 21, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Immaculate Conception, 110 S. School St. Sign up online at www.heartlandbc.org or call Teri at the church office (815) 458-2125 to reserve preferred donation time. Walk-ins welcome, appointments appreciated. Please bring a photo ID and eat a good meal before donating. Every donor will receive a $10 Target Gift Card (while supplies last).

To be a blood donor, individuals must be at least 17 years old, or 16 with written parental permission; weigh at least 110 pounds; be symptom free of cold, flu and allergies; and be in general good health. Donors who have traveled outside the United States within the past 12 months should contact Heartland at 1-800-7TO-GIVE to determine eligibility.
