Man sentenced to prison for battering pregnant woman
A Morris man will spend 18 months in prison as punishment for battering a pregnant woman.
Oscar Reta, 26, of 2413 Oakland Circle, B, was sentenced Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, in Grundy County Circuit Court to serve his time at the Illinois Department of Corrections for a charge of domestic battery.
The charge stems from a Sept. 29, 2012, incident when Reta struck the victim in the face and head with his hand and elbow. Court documents state Reta was aware the victim was pregnant at the time of the incident.
Reta was initially charged with aggravated battery, a Class 3 felony. Morris Police Department Detective Eric Werden testified.
Reta was given credit for having served 97 days, from Sept. 29 to Jan. 3. He also must pay $250 in DNA analysis fees and $215 in court costs.
