Man sentenced to prison for heroin conviction

An Ottawa man will spend 18 months in the Illinois Department of Corrections for having heroin in his possession

Morris V. Rankins, 50, was handed his punishment Jan. 10, 2013, in Grundy County Circuit Court.

He was given credit for having served 94 days, ranging from Oct. 9, 2012, to Jan. 10, 2013. He also must pay $1,085 in court costs and fees.

Rankins was arrested Oct. 9, 2012, for unlawful possession of a control substance containing heroin, a Class 4 felony.
