ROUNDUP: Morris cheerleaders fail to advance

BLOOMINGTON — Morris finished 22nd and did not advance out of the preliminary round at the competitive cheerleading state final competition Friday at U.S. Cellular Coliseum.

Morris was given a score of 79.60.

The lowest score of any of the 10 advancing teams was a 85.18 by Troy.

Plainfield South 20

MINOOKA — Sam Wurtz scored 12 points and Erin Heide added 10 Friday night for the Indians (10-16, 7-6) in Southwest Prairie Conference play.

Taylor Prieboy had 13 points and Emily Knaub 12 for Minooka (22-5, 11-2) in a 45-17 sophomore win.

Seneca 56,
Reed-Custer 51, OT

BRAIDWOOD — Chelsie McCormick went 3-for-4 from the foul line, scored 13 points and grabbed 7 rebounds for Seneca (13-15, 7-4) in Interstate Eight Conference play Thursday. Kayla Haines had 11 points, and Anna Baker made 2 field goals in OT.

Karlie Cade and Olivia Taylor had 11 points and Kendall Carajohn and Lexi Wilkinson for the Seneca sophomore team (17-6, 8-3).

Coal City 51,
Westmont 28

WESTMONT — Nicole Borgetti had 14 points and 4 steals to lead Coal City (21-5, 8-2) Thursday in the I-8. Emily Halliday and Donjeta Shabani had 10 points each.

Thirteen points from Makenna Emerson and 11 from Abigail Olsen led the Lady Coalers (15-2, 9-0) in a 46-6 sophomore win.

DWIGHT — Lisa Bruner had 17 points Thursday in the I-8 for Dwight (10-16, 5-6).

CULLOM — Chelsea Schultz’s 22 points were not enough Thursday for Gardner-South Wilmington (10-16) in the River Valley Conference. Miranda Faletti added 10 points.

PLAINFIELD — Jake Hogen scored 16 points Friday to lead the Indians (15-10, 6-4) in Southwest Prairie Conference play.

MAZON — Katy Smith had 3 kills, 8 points and 4 aces for the Saratoga (4-9) eighth-graders Thursday.

Sami Tondini served up 9 poitns for Mazon-Verona-Kinsman.

Saratoga (8-2) won the seventh-grade match 13-25, 25-6, 25-13 behind 10 points, 10 aces and 5 assists from Ashley Hood.

Alex Draves of MVK had 12 points.

MVK won the sixth-grade match 25-15, 25-12 behind 7 poitns from Carissa Simon.

Minooka def. Coal City,
25-20, 25-22

COAL CITY — Hailey Arlis led the Minooka eighth-graders in assists Thursday.

Coal City (8-5) was led by Kenady Clayburn’s 7 kills and 4 blocks.

Minooka won 25-23, 25-12 at the seventh-grade match behind 4 kills and 11 aces from Hailey Justak.
