Area Roundup: Seneca absorbs first I-8 loss

For the first time this year, the Seneca Fighting Irish basketball team has suffered a defeat in Interstate Eight Conference play after a 39-35 loss to Plano.
Seneca (20-4) was led by 11 points from Conlan Callahan while Peyton Schrag and Jimmy David had eight points each.

Jason Walker had 23 points for the Redskins in the loss.


FRESHMEN
Yorkville 55,
Morris 34
YORKVILLE — Jacob Jurasits had 12 points and Trey Ward in the “A” game Monday for the Redskins.
Morris lost 44-36 in the “B” game behind 10 points from Brian Haldorson and 8 from Michael Cryder and Josh Lawson.


GIRLS BASKETBALL
Pontiac 54,
Coal City 36
PONTIAC — Coal City (21-6) was led by Nicole Borgetti with 9 points, Emily Halliday with 8 and Donjeta Shabani with 7 and 8 rebounds on Monday.
Badyson Bunton had 12 points and  rebound and Carly Pavlis 8 points in a 34-20 win over Pontiac by the Coal City sophomores.

WILMINGTON — Lisa Bruner scored 18 points and added 13 rebounds for Dwight (10-17) Monday at the Class 2A Wilmington Regional.


FRESHMEN

DEKALB — Jessica Jurak had 11 points and Rylee Harr and Devin Pacheco 10 each for Morris Saturday in the Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference Tournament.

Ashley Hatz had 4 points for MVK.
In the seventh grade match, Seneca won 25-18, 22-25, 26-24 despite 12 points from Alex Draves.

Saratoga def. Wilmington,
25-20, 25-21
Five kills from Katy Smith and 3 kills, 9 points, 4 aces and 7 assists from Jen Smerling helped the Lady Hawks (6-11) to the eighth-grade win Monday.
Abbey Moore had 3 kills, 9 points and 2 aces and Kimber Fieden had 2 kills, 7 points, 2 aces and 7 assists for Saratoga (11-3) in a 25-9, 21-25, 25-11 seventh-grade win.


MVK def. Milton Pope,
25-14, 12-25, 25-20
MARSEILLES —Cora Wilinson served up 12 points and finished the third game Monday for the Mazon-Verona-Kinsman eighth-graders.
Sara Cahill’s 7 points were an MVK high in a 25-10, 25-18 seventh-grade win.
Behind 10 points from Kylie Windsor, the Lady Mavericks won 25-22, 25-4 in the sixth-grade match.

MANTENO — Jami Vescova had 7 kills and 2 points and Kenady Clayburn 4 kills, 2 blocks, 5 points and 3 assists Monday for the Coal City (8-6) eighth-graders.
