Special treats are needed for granddaughter Macie’s golden 6th birthday celebration today

When making Macie’s chocolate cup, it is necessary to melt almond bark instead of chocolate chips, because the chocolate from the chips will not harden as well. Also, Sue found that two extra squares of almond bark are needed when the white almond bark is used because, for some unknown reason, the white chocolate does not go as far.

My granddaughter, Macie, is turning 6 today. It is her golden birthday.

She is a kindergartner.  She loves school and she loves a project. 

She likes to help me in the kitchen, even when I don’t need any help. She does not like the cleaning up process one bit, but loves the preparation.

In thinking about her birthday, we talked about making something delicious and different for her to take to school on her big day.

We came up with these chocolate cups. She thought we could fill them with ice cream or even candy. Although, a good idea, not the best thing to transport on the bus. Also, I think her teacher might not appreciate having to fuss with Macie’s birthday treat.

Macie and I (mostly me) made the chocolate cups by brushing melted chocolate in a paper muffin cup. We let it dry and then fixed any parts we missed or that were too thin with more chocolate. We then let it dry again and carefully took the paper off the chocolate. What we had was some very pretty chocolate, fluted cups.

(We did make some with white almond bark, in case someone in her class did not like or could not eat chocolate.)

Macie was so excited; she would have been satisfied with just the cups!

We wanted her birthday treat, however, to be super special.  (After all, it’s not every day that you turn 6 on the 6th.)

We decided to make smaller cupcakes to fit inside the chocolate cup. This way everyone gets a cupcake and candy.

Again, Macie thought ice cream would be good to put in the cups, but it was just too much work to bring to school.

We made the cupcakes from a store-bought Funfetti mix.  Also, we bought frosting. Macy loved mixing the batter and putting it in the cake cups. Once cooled, I frosted.

She let her cousins, Aymen and Ashlynn, put a Lifesaver candy on top of each cupcake. She put some sprinkles on, and then they took turns putting candles in. Of course, the candles are only for decoration, as they cannot be lit in school.

These treats are pretty to look at, fun to eat, and delicious. Macie was anxious to bring these to her class today.

Macie and I decided we would make some of these for our family party, also. But these WOULD have ice cream in them.

Use almond bark to make these. If you melt chocolate chips they will not harden as well.

Also, for some odd reason, you will need at least two extra squares for the white almond bark. Don’t ask me why?  It just doesn’t go as far as the chocolate.

Make these for a party and let your child help you. It’s a lot easier and quicker to make them on your own, but where’s the fun in that?

If you see Macie today, wish her a happy golden birthday. After all, how often are you golden? And remember,…a good cook always cleans up!

MACIE’S CHOCOLATE CUPS

6 squares almond bark

20 cupcake liners

Melt almond bark in a glass measuring cup in the microwave for 3 to 4 minutes,  stirring every 30 seconds.

Using a pastry brush, brush the inside of a cupcake liner with the melted almond bark.

Let harden. Then brush with more chocolate parts that may be too thin or cracked.

Once cooled, gently peel cupcake liner off chocolate.
