Pat Halloran deserves to remain in charge at MCHS

Published: Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013 5:00 a.m. CST

I was over at the high school last week and bumped into Pat, and simply asked him, “What is going on with the board?” He would not tell me, and for the first time I can remember, he did not give me his full attention on a specific request. It really did not surprise me, as that was the professional thing to do.

Because I really wanted to know, I asked the first couple locals I saw, who I thought might know the real scoop. None of them were teachers, who are reported to be unanimously supportive of Pat, which is very impressive in itself. What I found out is that the resistance to a new contract for Pat, is about “a lot of nothing.” Really, there is nothing concrete anyone can say negative about his performance as our superintendant.

Well, I guess that leaves personal issues, and the only thing I can find there is he was not able to hit enough three-pointers in the Fuzz game to break the tie in the series. I will admit I also noticed he has slowed a step or two.

In all seriousness, MCHS has been burned once by a looser leader in his seat, that took us all for a very divisive and expensive ride. We all chipped in to pay off a former superintendant to just go bye bye and do absolutely nothing for MCHS.

In Dr. Halloran, we have a proven winner. I have watched him from the county level, fairly and skillfully negotiate sticky issues for the benefit of Morris High School.

It is not an accident we named it the Morris Community High School. As our “only” high school goes, so goes our community. In my opinion, it is our most visible source of pride, it is our proud past, it is our bright future, MCHS is an adored symbol of our beloved community.

I for one feel good about trusting our community in the strong (though not quite as fast) hands of Dr. Halloran.
