Representatives from last year’s Morris Hospital Auxiliary Golf Committee check out the new Patient Transportation bus that was funded through the 2012 golf outing, including (from left) Terri Gilmoure, Gayle Green, Becky DiVincenzo and Cheryl Tesdal.

Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers recently added a new bus to its patient transportation fleet. At a cost of $50,412, the new bus was funded by the Morris Hospital Foundation primarily using proceeds raised at the 2012 Morris Hospital Auxiliary Golf Outing and Bridge/Euchre Tournament.

The new, 10-passenger, wheelchair accessible bus replaces a 2004 bus that accumulated 230,000 miles during its years of service. That bus will be retained and used when any of the six active patient transportation buses are undergoing maintenance.

Since 1998, Morris Hospital’s Patient Transportation Service has provided community members free rides to medical appointments more than 172,000 times with the help of more than 100 volunteer drivers and driver assistants.

Community members utilize the free patient transportation service to get medical related appointments, such as immunizations at the health department, cancer treatment at the Radiation Therapy Center of Morris Hospital, dental, eye and physician appointments at area offices, physical therapy, kidney dialysis and many other health-related needs. The buses travel throughout Grundy County and parts of La Salle, Livingston, Kendall and Will.

“We consider our patient transportation service a vital community amenity,” says Tina Carter, manager of Patient Transportation and Lifeline Services at Morris Hospital. “Our primary focus is to help improve the health of area residents by getting them to and from their medical appointments. We couldn’t do it without the help of our volunteers and donors to the Morris Hospital Auxiliary and Foundation.”

The Morris Hospital Auxiliary will host the 2013 Golf Outing & Bridge/Euchre Tournament on Monday, May 13 at Morris Country Club. Like last year, this year’s proceeds will benefit the Patient Transportation and Lifeline Services. To request an invitation to the outing, call Hannah Wehrle, development officer at Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers, at (815) 942-2932, ext. 7021.
