Area Roundup: Indians win own invite

MINOOKA — Host Minooka defeated Neuqua Valley 25-19, 23-25, 25-19 Saturday for the championship at its own boys volleyball invitational.

SOFTBALL

Morris 10,

Earlville 3

Kellen Bernickus, Madi Feeney and Taya Torkelson had 3 hits each for the Redskins Saturday, with Kelly Kolotka and Leah Lines adding 2. Erica Gualandi pitched 4 scoreless innings and Kolotka pitched in relief.

St. Bede 4,

Morris 2

Gualandi pitched all 6 innings in the Redskins’ second Saturday game, allowing 4 earned runs. Gualandi, who had 2 singles, and Kolotka, who doubled, drove in the Morris runs.

SOPHOMORES

Morris 11,

Earlville 1, 5 innings

Winning pitcher Laurel Harper (3 RBI, 2 runs) and Emily Moore (double, 3 runs, RBI) each went 3-for-3 for Morris Saturday, and Makenzie Hanson was 2-for-2 with 2 RBI and 2 runs.

Morris 15,

St. Bede 8

Harper pitched the complete-game victory and went 3-for-4 with an RBI and 3 runs Saturday. Taylor Waters was 2-for-3 with a double, 4 RBI and 2 runs, and Taylor Cole and Hanson were 2-for-4.

NEWARK — Joe Hughes (3-4), who struck out 12, and Wyatt Williamson, who struck out 10, pitched for the wins in Saturday’s Little Ten Conference doubleheader. In the first game for the Norsemen, Kevin Klock went 3-for-4 with 2 doubles and 5 RBI and Matt Eike was 2-for-2 with an RBI.

In the second, Eike was 3-for-4 with 2 doubles and 4 RBI and Mitch Schmidt was 2-for-3.

Dwight 3

DWIGHT — Carson Banks had 3 hits and an RBI and Ryan Gaston added 2 hits Saturday for Dwight. Chance Carlson (0-4) took the loss.

FRESHMEN

Minooka 11,

Glenbard South 0

GLEN ELLYN — Seven Minooka pitchers combined on a 2-hitter Saturday for Minooka, with Larry Roberts getting the win. Nick Clemmons was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI and Nick Stallion was 2-for-4 with a triple and 4 RBI at the plate.

Brad VanAsdlen pitched 7 scoreless and hitless innings, striking out 14, in a 7-0 Minooka “B” win. Kris Ledesma went 2-for-3 and Alex Boretti doubled.

BOYS TENNIS

Romeoville 4,

Minooka 3

MINOOKA — Winners for Minooka (3-6, 1-2) Friday in the Southwest Prairie Conference were Dane Christensen and David Kohler at No. 2 doubles, 6-1, 6-3, Nick Miller and Josh Sutton at No. 3 doubles, 7-6, 6-0, and Shane McNamee and Kyle Murphy at No. 4 doubles, 6-3, 6-0.

Gunter Nusbaumer had 11 points and Connor Greve 10 for Nettle Creek.

Nusbaumer had 20 points and Greve 10 in a 34-18 “B” win for Nettle Creek.
