Grundy County adds harsher charge vs. Smith

Published: Saturday, May 4, 2013 5:00 a.m. CDT

Grundy County is bringing harsher charges against the Morris man who allegedly led police on a high-speed chase Monday.

Sean S. Smith, 28, will face a charge of aggravated fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, according to a police report. Smith was already charged with DUI, aggravated fleeing and attempting to elude police (in excess of 100 MPH), improper lane usage, disobeying stop signs, reckless driving and obstructing police in La Salle County, where the chase began.

But in Grundy County, where officers apprehended him, he initially faced charges of leaving the scene of a vehicle-damage accident and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.

Smith had allegedly struck a mailbox along U.S. 6, near Marseilles, in La Salle County. When La Salle County Sheriff’s police attempted to stop him, he fled.
