COLLEGE: Irons awarded art scholarship

MCHS graduate receives EIU’s Buzzard award

CHARLESTON, Ill. — Teala Irons of Morris was awarded Eastern Illinois University’s Irene Couchman Buzzard Scholarship.

Irons, a senior art history major, is the daughter of Linda Gual and Brian Irons. She is a 2009 graduate of Morris Community High School.

This award is administered through the Eastern Illinois University Foundation and was established by Ms. Martha Feutz. The award is presented to an EIU student, with a second semester sophomore standing or above, majoring in art. The recipient must have a minimum overall GPA of 2.5 and an art GPA of 3.0.

Recipients are chosen by art department faculty with considerations of students demonstrating excellence in crafts, including ceramics, metalsmithing or weaving.

The Foundation, with an andowment exceeding $53.7 million, was established in 1953 and annually distributes more than 500 scholarships and awards to EIU students and faculty. All scholarships and awards are privately funded and held in trust by the foundation.

Morris student wins Iowa State University leadership scholarship

AMES, Iowa — Nicholas Terhall of Morris was honored with the 2013 Junior Leadership Award at Iowa State University.

The scholarship award recognizes the contributions of a junior student leader. It is awarded on the basis of progression of leadership development; breadth, depth and impact of past leadership activities; and potential for future leadership.

Terhall is a graduate of Morris Community High School, and majors in aerospace engineering.
