Carissa Baumeister, from left, environmental engineer with LyondellBasell; Annette Tackett, process specialist; Sandy Yu, environmental engineer; Karen Nall of United Way of Grundy County; Shelli Ocepek of East La Salle County United Way; and Sarah Oprzedek of Will County United Way all pose with an over-sized check representing LyondellBasell’s combined $101,000 donation to the three local United Ways.

LyondellBasell of Morris donated $101,000 to the Grundy, Will and eastern La Salle counties’ United Ways.

“This donation is their corporate match to what their employees give,” said Karen Nall, executive director of the United Way of Grundy County.

Grundy County is receiving about $35,000 of the $101,000 corporate match. LyondellBasell matches its employees’ contributions dollar for dollar. The employees’ $35,000 to Grundy is donated through payroll deduction. Their contributions go to the United Way located in the county in which they live.

Employees from the LyondellBasell Morris Complex gave the check to the United Way of Grundy County Tuesday morning. Representatives from the United Way of eastern LaSalle and the United Way of Will County were also there for their checks from the company’s 2012-2013 campaign.

“It’s wonderful because not only is LyondellBasell a leader in our community, it’s a great example for their employees,” said Nall. “I think that is why their employees are so generous because they know LyondellBasell backs up whatever they want to support.”

The company has contributed to the Grundy County United Way for many, many years, said Nall. They ranked as the second highest contributor in last year’s campaign.

“Our site is honored to continue its support of the United Way,” said Carissa Baumeister, Morris Complex associate engineer.

“It’s a privilege to partner with an organization that brings continuous hope and aid to so many people in need.”

Nationally, LyondellBasell made a record-shattering contribution of more than $1.9 million to United Way agencies across the country.

“We look forward to next year. Let’s exceed our goal,” said Brent Connett, public relations manager for LyondellBasell as he handed Nall the check.

The United Way of Grundy County raises funds for 27 not-for-profit agencies that provide programs and services for Grundy County residents such as counseling, hospice care, transportation, food, shelter and children programs. Nall said the agencies serve people from birth to death.

This year’s campaign goal for Grundy County is $455,000.
