Mae C. Johnson

YORKVILLE, Ill. — Mrs. Mae C. Johnson, 91, of Yorkville, Ill., passed away Thursday, June 13, 2013 at the Seasons Hospice in Naperville, Ill.

Born on Mother’s Day, May 14, 1922 in Tekonshia, Mich., Mae was the youngest child of John and Della (Lamere) Failing and was given the name of Mae Carnation Failing.

Mae was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Lloyd Johnson, on Aug. 24, 1939 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Seneca. They spent 67 wonderful years together until his passing on Oct. 10, 2006. She was a longtime member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Oswego, Ill.

Mae was a former 4-H Leader in Seneca. After moving to Yorkville in 1968, Mae joined the Illinois Prairie Painters and the National Society of Decorative Painters. She received her Certified Teachers Certificate from that society in April 1982 and taught for the Tandy Company in Aurora, Ill.. Mae also taught painting in her home. She was a volunteer for the Kendall County Food Pantry. Her pride and joy were her six children and their families.

Survivors include her children, Diana (Richard) Schlosser of Oswego, Ill., Kenneth (Susan) Johnson of Goreville, Ill., Pamela (Michael) Hitzemann of Yorkville, Ill., Russell (Karen) Johnson of Gilbert, Ariz., Gregory (Shelley) Johnson of Yorkville, Ill.; her daughter-in-law, Christine Johnson of Yorkville, Ill.; her 13 grandchildren; her 16 great-grandchildren; her sisters-in-law, Aileen Johnson, Luella Rooney and Florence Dunn, all of Seneca; as well as nine nieces and nine nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Johnson; her son, Leslie Johnson; her parents, Della and John Failing; her sisters and their husbands, Francelia and John Pardon, Ferne and Don Olson, Dorothy and Lowell Hougas; her brother, John “Jack” and wife Mary Margaret Failing; her mother and father-in-law, Mabel and C. Warren Johnson; her brothers-in-law, Bernard “June” Rooney, Elwin Dunn and Howard Johnson; and her three special nephews, Robert Pardon, and Carl and David Olson. A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, 551 Boulder Hill Pass, Oswego, Ill. Father Dan Stempora will officiate.

Interment beside her husband will follow at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Bristol, Ill.

Friends may visit from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, June 24, 2013 at the Larson-Nelson Funeral Home, 410 E. Countryside Pkwy., Yorkville, Ill.

Mae was grateful for her loving family and a long life. Her request was that memorials in her name be directed to Mesothelioma Cancer Research, www.marf.org,. This was the devastating cancer that took the lives of both her husband and her son.
