William H. Barr

EAST MOLINE, Ill. — Mr. William H. “Bill” Barr, 66, of East Moline, Ill., passed away Monday, June 17, 2013, at Unity Point Trinity in Rock Island, Ill., due to complications from a brain aneurism.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 22, at Rafferty Funeral Home, 2111 1st. St. A, Moline, followed by military honors conducted by American Legion Post 246, Moline. Graveside services will be conducted at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Morris, at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, June 22.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 21, at the funeral home.

Memorials can be made to St. Ambrose University or the American Heart Association.

Bill was born June 4, 1947, in Joliet, Ill., the son of David and Venita (Harty) Barr. He graduated from Morris High School in 1965, and St. Ambrose College in 1969.

A U.S. Army veteran who served during the Vietnam War, Bill retired in 2008 from John Deere Seeding Company after 28 years of service.

He was a member of St. Patrick’s Society, St. Ambrose Alumni Association and the NRA. An avid car enthusiast, he enjoyed NASCAR and was a Chicago Cubs, Green Bay Packers and Illini fan.

Survivors include his companion of 38 years, Jill Renihan; a sister, Brenda (Dave) Eltrevoog of Mazon, Ill.; brothers Mike (Linda) Barr of Charlotte, N.C., Jeff Barr of Morris, and Steve (Kathy) Barr of Morris; a sister-in-law, Sharon Barr of St. Charles, Ill.; nieces and nephews Timothy Barr, Christopher Barr, Amy (Dave Carr) Barr, David Barr, Elizabeth (Rob) Jones, John Barr, Tracy (Tom) Justice, Holly (Jeff Brockman) Eltrevoog, Brett (Jessica Fox) Barr, Katie (Brian Olbrot) Barr; and great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Venita; and a brother, Patrick.

Mr. Barr’s family would like to extend a special thank you to Rosewood Care Center and to all of his supportive friends and family, as well as the staff at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
