Doo Wop continues at Conklin’s

‘Life Could Be a Dream’ halfway through six-week run

GOODFIELD, Ill. — Conklin’s Barn II Dinner Theatre in Goodfield has three week’s left on the premiere run of a brand new show for the Barn stage — the 1960’s Doo Wop musical “Life Could Be a Dream.”

Featuring Dan and Tamra Challacombe, Pat Gaik, Chad Kirvan and Dave Windsor, the show will conclude its six-week run on July 14.

“Life Could Be a Dream” is a charming jukebox musical created by Roger Bean, who also conceived “The Marvellous Wonderettes” and “Route 66,” among many other musicals.

“Life Could Be a Dream” is the story of four guys with a dream of winning big in a local talent competition and the girl who almost comes between them, but ultimately brings them together and coaches them in their efforts to win the contest and launch their singing careers. The show is full of wonderful Doo Wop hits like the title song, as well as such terrific songs as “Tears on My Pillow,” “Fools Fall in Love,” “Unchained Melody,” and “The Duke of Earl,” to mention just a few.

“We’re thrilled to bring this terrific show to our stage, and to have our very own “Plaids”— along with the multi-talented Tamra Challacombe—wrap their voices around these classic Doo-Wop arrangements,” Director Mary Simon said.

The production is directed by Simon, with staging and choreography by Simon and Tamra Challacombe. Set design is by April Wyant, and publicity is by Pat Gaik.

Conklin’s Barn II is known for its delicious buffet which, on evening performances, includes four main entrees including the Barn’s renowned prime rib and fried chicken, with salad, homemade soup and cheese spread, and a choice of four taste-tempting, homemade desserts.

Prices for dinner and show are $35 on Thursday evening, $37 on Friday evening and Sunday brunch, and $39 on Saturday evening, including tax. No advance payment is required.

Conklin’s is also BYOB for wine, beer or cocktails. Glasses, ice and ice buckets are provided at no extra charge.
