Many contributed to garden walk’s success
Morse overall winner of flower show
The 2013 Morris Area Garden Club garden walk committee would like to thank the many people who contributed to the success of this year’s Butterflies and Bumble Bees Garden Walk and Tea.
The warm temperatures and an unexpected early morning rain could not keep the crowds away.
If you missed the garden walk, go to the MAGC Facebook page to see photos of the gardens on the tour.
The MAGC would like to thank Sheryl McMillan, Kim Wysocki-Buss, Bob and Leslie Johnson, Pam and George Coley and the Morris Area Public Library for graciously opening their garden spaces. All the gardens were inspiring and members know the work involved preparing for a garden walk.
The club would also like to thank the businesses that helped by donating gift certificates for the 26 gift baskets that were raffled off to support the MAGC scholarship program. Those businesses include R Place Restaurant, Pam’s Tiers of Joy, That Perennial Place, Nettle Creek Nursery, Big R, Nettle Creek Country Club, Thirty-One Gifts, Morris Country Club, Dairy Queen, Jewel, Turf Team, Bellacino’s Pizza & Grinders, Granby’s Nursery, Culver’s, Ace Hardware, Hallmark, Maria’s Restaurant, En Joi! Bakery, McGrath Office Equipment, and Chapin’s Restaurant.
Finally, a huge thank you goes to the MAGC volunteers who donated raffle items and their invaluable time during the garden walk and tea.
The MAGC members’ flower show did not disappoint this year. There were 43 entries in seven categories. First place winners were Kim Wysocki-Buss, for her Bonfire Begonia, in the annual category; Eileen Grosso, for her Heuchera, in the perennial category; Diane Lucas, in the roses category, for her climbing Blaze Rose; Sue Morse won in the tea rose category,; Monica Evans in the worthy specimen rose category; Diane Lucas won in the flowering vine category with her Honeysuckle Vine; Sue Morse won in the herb category with her cilantro, and also won first place and grand first place with her Torch Lily in the tuber, bulbs, corms, rhizomes category.
MAGC meets next at the home of Sue Morse for a MAGC members’ potluck picnic and tour of her farm on July 16. Guests are welcome to attend the annual MAGC annual field trip on Aug. 20 to the Creek Side Nutrient Farm in Minooka.
