JOLIET — The Joliet Jewish Welfare Chest, which is associated with Joliet Jewish Congregation, made its first 2013 distribution of over $10,000. Much of the distribution went to help fund national and international services, such as those provided by Hadassah and its hospital, Shalva, which deals with mental handicaps and social abuse, and the Jewish Braille Institute.
Chicagoland donations went to “The ARK,” which deals with the poor and homeless, and Maot Chitim, which helps send food stuffs to those in need.
Local funding was given to Joliet Area Hospice, Sunny Hill Nursing Home, Will County Center for Com-munity Concerns, Trinity Services, Cornerstone, Daybreak Shelter, Guardian Angel Community Services and Will County Center for Independent Living.
The Joliet Jewish Welfare Chest is funded exclusively by private donations which they always greatly appreciate. Currently the Welfare Chest is in the process of its 2013 campaign.
