Special Olympics will benefit from dinner, auction
PERU, Ill. — Starved Rock Area Special Olympics will hold its 11th annual fundraising auction from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, at Celebrations 150 in Utica.
This year’s theme is “Viva Las Vegas,” with Country 96.5 The Wolf’s Cowboy serving as the master of ceremonies. Zach Hintz, Special Olympian, and his father, Jim, will serve as auctioneers.
Entertainment for the evening will be provided by The Steve Sharp Band. The auction is open to the public, and all proceeds will directly benefit the 550 Special Olympic athletes in the area.
A variety of food, golf, and service certificates and silent auction baskets will be available for bidding. Among the prizes are two Southwest Airlines tickets to anywhere in the continental U.S.
There will also be a 50/50 raffle.
Presenting sponsors are Miller Group Charitable Trust and 96.5 The Wolf.
The Miller Group Charit-able Trust will match dollar-for-dollar the first $6,000 in contributions. That means for every $1 spent, Special Olympics receives $2.
Tickets for the auction are now on sale for $30, which includes a dinner buffet and entertainment.
Those interested in attending the auction can make their reservations by registering online at area16auction.eventbrite.com, calling Cheryl De Paepe, area director, at (815) 220-8128, or sending a check with the names of those attending to Special Olympics, 1718 Peoria Street, Peru, IL 61354.
Walk-ins are welcome.
