Hospital introduces nutrition/fitness program

It’s no secret there’s a weight problem in American society.

In fact, Morris Hospital & Healthcare Center’s recent community health needs assessment indicates over one-third of the population in Grundy, Kendall, La Salle, Livingston, and Will counties is considered overweight, and another one-fourth is obese.

Morris Hospital is trying to change those statistics by partnering with DIET FREE™ -- a life-changing nutrition and fitness program.

The hospital has invited DIET FREE founder Zonya Foco to speak at a kick off event from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, in the auditorium at Morris Community High School.

According to Leigh Ann Hall, wellness manager at Morris Hospital, DIET FREE is not a diet program; rather it is about helping people change their lifestyles. The program has benefits for people with heart disease and diabetes, as well as those who want to lose weight.

“DIET FREE is based on eight habits that can be easily incorporated into daily life and followed for a lifetime,” says Hall.

“The eight habits are simple and things that anyone can do, such as drinking more water, and including breakfast in your morning routine.”

Since DIET FREE focuses on lifestyle changes, participants don’t experience the yo-yoing associated with most short-term diets. In addition, the program isn’t expensive because it doesn’t require the purchase of special food or other products.

“DIET FREE was created for the everyday person,” says Hall.

“Other programs can be expensive and lack connection, but this program makes everything personal. The program’s creator has been through the weight loss experience herself and truly cares about the success of the participants.”

Those who enroll will have the option of participating in the 10-week program online or attending weekly group meetings at Morris Hospital from 6 to 7 p.m. on Thursdays, Sept. 12 to Nov. 14.

“The biggest difference between DIET FREE and other programs is that this is a lifestyle change, not a short-term program. The kick off event on August 22 is a great opportunity to come and learn more and realize what a difference eight simple habits can make,” Hall said.
