Mary A. Perez

OTTAWA, Ill. — Mrs. Mary A. (Ortiz) Perez, 83, of Ottawa, Ill., passed away at her home, while surrounded by her loving family, on Sunday, July 28, 2013.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013, at St. Columba Church, with the Rev. Ray Guthrie officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 31, at Ottawa Funeral Home, 1111 La Salle St., Ottawa. Prayers will be at 4 p.m., with the Rev. David Kipfer officiating. Mrs. Perez will be buried at St. Columba Cemetery.

Mary was born Nov. 21, 1929, in Kewanee, Ill., to Benito and Jenny (Rojas) Ortiz. She attended Ottawa public schools and St. Xavier High School. She was the first born of nine siblings.

She married Raymond Perez on Sept. 23, 1950, in Ottawa, at St. Columba Church. She was a member of St. Columba Church, Altar and Rosary of St. Columba Church, Guadelapana Society of St. Columba Church, a past Eucharistic Minister, Lector, and member of St. Columba Choir, and she served on the Human Relations Board of Ottawa.

Her hobbies included painting, crafts, music, singing, ballroom dancing Latin-style with Ray, cooking Mexican food, and canning. She also held monthly Bible study and prayer meetings in her home once a month.

She is survived by her loving husband, Raymond; her three children, Monica (George) Hall, Rick (Lori) Perez, and Laura (Steve) Loughridge; five grandchildren, Bob Hall, Jim (Michelle) Hall, Carrie (Mike Poundstone) Perez, Allison Perez, and Brittany Loughridge; three great-grandchildren, Corey and Emma Hall, and Parker Poundstone; five brothers, Richard (Margaret) Ortiz of Washington, Dr. Phil Ortiz of Morris, Ill., Tony (Pat) Ortiz of Morris, Dan (Judy) Ortiz of Ottawa, and David Ortiz of Ottawa.

She was preceded in death by her siblings Angel, Joseph, and John; and her grandmother, Jesus Rojas.

Pallbearers will be Corey Hall, Bob and Jim Hall, Phil, Dan, and Tony Ortiz, Dave Ortiz Sr., Dave Ortiz Jr., Mike Poundstone, Joanne Monroe, Lynn Van Grevenhof, and Bev Meyers.

Memorials may be directed to the family and St. Columba Church.
