SHOREWOOD — The annual Shorewood Crossroads Festival has grown from a one-day event to celebrate the nation’s bicentennial to three days of fun, food, fireworks, festivities and so much more.

A variety of activities geared for the young, as well as the young at heart, will take place Aug. 2-4 in Four Seasons Park, 24520 W. Seil Road (west of River Road).

The festival is brought to the community by the Shorewood Area Chamber of Commerce. The presenting sponsor is Heartland Bank and Trust.

The fest kicks off at 4 p.m. Friday, with a grand opening party at 4:30 p.m.  The carnival, food vendors, beer and wine garden and entertainment can be found over the three-day festival.

Children will be delighted by the fact that the fest will feature an unlimited carnival ride $20 wristband 4-8 p.m. Friday, and 1-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Friday’s opening band is “Strung Out” at 5:15 p.m. followed at 9 p.m. by the Headliner Band Libido Funk Circus, playing popular music from the days of Motown to last week’s Billboard charts.

Saturday opens with the Shorewood Festival 5K Race at 8 a.m. near the Shorewood Police Station. Children’s races start at 8:30 a.m.

At 11 a.m. is the Beautiful Baby Contest in the entertainment tent. The car show, sponsored by Bill Jacobs Auto Group and organized with assistance from Graybeal Auto Repair, is from noon to 6 p.m.

Kidz Zone, noon to 5 p.m., includes Home Depot crafts, face painting, make-a-magnet, Fancy Frames, coloring crafts, temporary tattoos and more.  There will be a Bounce House for free and tie-dyed t-shirt making available for a fee.

Also, children can stop at the Kidz Zone tent to pick up a “Crossroads Fest Passport.”

If they find all six items on the scavenger hunt, it can be turned in at either of the two information booths on the park for a special prize; sponsored by Home Depot and the Village of Shorewood.

The Craft and Chamber Member expo is noon to 6 p.m. Registration for the Bags Tournament is noon.  Fireworks are scheduled for 9 p.m.

At 5 p.m. is the family show “Emily and the Messengers.” At 5:30 p.m. Kashmir, a Led Zeppelin tribute band is the opener for ARRA, the Journey plus cover band that headlined last year’s fest, takes the stage at 9:30 p.m.

The annual Shorewood Crossroads Festival Parade steps off at noon, Sunday.  The annual hot dog and pie eating contest is scheduled for the afternoon.  Featured entertainment 2 to 5 p.m. is Skooters Roadhouse Country All-Stars. At 5:30 p.m. is the Bicentennial Pops Band Patriotic Closing Concert.

This year will find some new changes to the festival with the rearrangement of the festival grounds and a new parking area.
