New Chinese eatery opens at Peru Mall

PERU, IL — Shoppers and movie patrons have a new place at Peru Mall to enjoy fresh Asian cuisine.

Bayou Express, the brainchild of Marco Diaz, opened near center court in early July. While the eatery’s name may conjure up visions of crawfish and catfish, Bayou Express serves freshly made Chinese fare.

The casual dining restaurant, which seats 30, offers sushi, orange chicken, fried rice, chicken teriyaki and other favorites prepared with fresh ingredients daily.  Diaz also makes his own sauces, using fresh ingredients and secret recipes.

While guests are snacking on appetizers of pot stickers, chicken egg rolls, or cream cheese Rangoon, they can watch the chef cooking their orders on a grill.

“After working as chief cook and assistant manager for a national restaurant chain, I knew that I wanted to open my own restaurant. Peru Mall has the right demographics – families and couples – who like to shop, take in a movie and eat out,” said Diaz.

“And, the shopping center provides excellent visibility that’s important to a new business.”

Peru Mall offers value shopping close to home.  Located at Route 251 near I-80, Peru Mall is home to Bergner’s, JCPenney, Marshalls, Sears and a variety of specialty shops and services.

The shopping center is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, visit www.perumall.com.

Peru Mall supports the community with programs throughout the year, including Back to school iPad giveaway; Battle of the Books; Adopt A Husky; the Holiday Giving Tree; and Toys for Tots.
