Morris girls swimming team loses tight decision

The Morris girls swimming team lost a tight decision to Ottawa on Tuesday, losing by a count of 114-106 to the Lady Pirates. The Redskins did narrowly beat Pontiac at the same event, though, beating the Indians by six.

Morris won the JV meet over both teams by scoring 135 team points.

The Redskins had two first-place performances on the night. In diving, Alex Schauer won with a score of 132.05 and Kelly Kolotka won the 100 freestyle with a time of 1:26.43.

Kolotka also was second in the 50 free with a time of :31.48 and was one of six seconds by the Redskins.

25-19, 25-18

The Coalers won their first Interstate Eight Conference North battle of the season by knocking off the Reapers.

Emily Halliday had seven kills, nine digs and two blocks for the locals while Kassie Aldridge had 14 assists and six digs. Also, Claire Smith had four kills and four blocks and Nicole Borgetti had four kills and three blocks.

Coal City won the frosh-soph match 25-21, 29-27.

BOYS SOCCER

Oswego East 1, OT

In a Southwest Prairie Conference contest on Tuesday, the Indians beat the Wolves in an overtime battle that came down to a shootout.

Matt Dlugopolski scored for Minooka and Kyle Sparks assisted.

Kyle Singletary made seven saves in goal.

CROSS COUNTRY

Seneca hosts triangular

The Lady Irish won the home triangular by sweeping their way to 15 points and wins over Plano (50) and Lisle (73).

The boys were fourth with 69 team points.

Scoring for the Seneca girls were: Caroline Collet (23:17.1), Shailee Bauer (24:57.3), Sarah Cameron (24:58.4),  Sarah Virgo (25:07.3) and Lexi Bogren (28:13.4).

Ross McCormick of Seneca won the boys race. He finished with a time of 18:16.6

For the Fighting Irish, Ben Rhoder shot a 40, Alex Bott a 47, Conlan Callahan a 48 and Auston Jashari a 49.

In the JV outing, Seneca won with a team score of 213, which was one stroke better than Coal City.

The Trojans won behind the medalist efforts of Bryce Mortensen and Seth Galloway. They each carded a 41. Also for Dwight, Karsten Kopmann and Andy Froelich each ended at 42, Nathan Zabel shot a 44 and Ryan Folkers a 47.

Devin Connally led Dwight’s JV team with a 45.

The Lady Irish shot their best round of the year in defeating Dwight at the Dwight Country Club.

Scoring for Seneca was: Jacquelyn Newberry (50 – medalist), Natalie Hamilton (64), Sam DeGraff (64) and Heather Vroman (64).

Scoring for Dwight was: Amber Curl (54), Nicole Murphy (65), Ellie Shaw (61) and Savannah Kline (66).

Minooka took the one and three singles and swept the doubles against Plainfield.
