Morris loses in volleyball, tennis but defeats Rochelle in boys golf

In area sports action in recent days, Kaneland defeated Morris in volleyball and Yorkville beat the Redskins in tennis. However, Morris won a golf outing at home against Rochelle.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Kaneland def. Morris,

26-24, 25-18

Kaylin Korte had six kills and Abby Baker four kills in the Northern Illinois Big 12 East Conference action. Austin Thompason and two aces and nine assists. Baker recorded 2 1/2 blocks.

Korte had 12 digs.

Minooka def. Oswego,

21-25, 26-24, 25-12

The Indians improve to 6-4 on the season overall and 2-1 in league play after the Southwest Prairie Conference win.

Skyler Day led Minooka with 13 kills, 19 digs and one block on the day while Ginger Perinar had 11 kills and three blocks. Additionally, Jessica Karalow had six kills, six blocks and two aces, Brenna Perinar five kills, Cindy Ley three aces, Gabriella Shaphard nine digs and four aces, Natalie Yard 17 digs, Kelly Clucas 19 assists and five digs and Megan Bauer 16 assists and two aces.

Coal City def. Sandwich,

25-9, 25-20

The Coalers stayed undefeated (3-0) in the Interstate Eight Conference North Division with the win while improving to 5-4 overall.

Emily Halliday led Coal City with 12 kills, 12 digs and two aces, Britta Spelde had six kills and three aces, Kassie Aldridge 15 assists and five digs, Taylor Rice four aces and Morgan Leopold seven digs.

Newark def. GSW,

25-19, 25-12

Newark was led by Kristina Nichols' six kills and Rachel Lape's four kills, four aces and eight points.

Lexi Zezianski had nine points and two kills and Mel Kala six points and 12 digs.

For GSW, Sophie Barna had three kills and 10 digs and Lexi Posing had seven digs. Emily Foley dished six assists.

Westmont def. Seneca,

25-21, 26-24

Seneca lost for the first time in I-8 North action while also dropping to 11-3-1 overall.

Lexi Wilkinson led the Irish with six kills, four points and four digs while Taylor Vandenberg had five kills, two points and two digs.

Jessica Clubb had nine digs and Kayla Haines nine assists. Madison Wyss also had eight assists.

GIRLS TENNIS

Yorkville 4,

Morris 1

The Redskins lone win came at No. 1 doubles where Leah Lines and Monica Davy defeated Becca Moment and Abby Perez 6-0, 6-2.

At singles, Megan Davy lost 6-1, 6-1 and Emma Dingbaum lost 6-4, 6-1. At doubles, Carly Williamson and Mary Bush lost 6-2, 6-6 (7-1) and Savannah Carter and Alyssa Larsen lost 6-4, 6-0.

Minooka 6,

Plainfield North 1

The Indians got wins at every spot but No. 1 singles in the SPC match.

At No. 2 singles, Katie McSteen won 6-3, 6-1 and at No. 3 singles Morgan Gierman won 6-1, 6-1.

In doubles, Emma VanDrie and Sarah Boeringa won 6-1, 6-1; Alexis Froiscoeur and paige Morris won 6-2, 6-4; Madison Kaufman and Gwen Barnes won 6-0, 6-3 and Raven Pointer and Tessa Stoval won 6-0, 6-0.

Justin Larsen had a low round of 36 in the meet against the Hubs at the Morris Country Club on Tuesday. Both Trevor Lines and Nick McPherson each carded a 37.

At the JV level, Morris won 185-206 behind rounds of 44 from Dylan Callahan and Shain Hennessy.

Kyle Sheppard led the way for the Indians with a 37 at the event held at Inwood in Joliet. Johnson and Thompson added a 37 each.

Karsen Kopmann was the medalist at the event held at Edgebrook Country Club. He carded a 41 on the par-32 front nine.

Also scoring for Dwight was Bryce Mortenson (45), Andy Froelich (48) and Nathan Zabel (50).

Plainfield Central 211

Alli Lee was the medalist in the SPC meet held at Mistwood on Tuesday. She shot a 45.

Also scoring for the Indians were: Miranda Sharp (53), Andra Sharp (53) and Ashley Gray (58).

Brian Haldorson had two goals and both Josh Lain and Brandon Vasquez one each in the win.

Enrique Luna and Leo Lopez had assists.

Keegan Sobol scored the lone TD for Morris in the loss.
