Morris volleyball rallies past Rochelle

Morris rallied to defeat Rochelle 21-25, 25-19, 25-7 Tuesday in Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference East varsity girls volleyball.

The Redskins (17-12-1, 4-3) received nine kills, a block, two aces and 17 digs from Kailyn Korte; eight kills and 13 digs from JoAnna Nowicki; seven kills each from Abby Baker and Austin Thompson; two aces and 17 digs from Morgan Hussey; and two aces and 32 assists from Taya Torkelson.

Morris swept, with its sophomores winning 25-20, 25-22 to improve to 3-16 and 2-5.

Its freshman “A” team won 25-12, 25-12 to improve to 15-7 and 4-3.

The freshman “B” team won 25-10, 25-12 to improve to 9-2 and 6-1.

Minooka def. Oswego East,

25-13, 25-17

Minooka (12-6, 8-3 Southwest Prairie) featured eight kills from Ginger Perinar; six kills from Skyler Day; three kills and two blocks from Jessica Karalow; three blocks from both Cynthia Ley and Brenna Perinar sevent digs from Natalie Yard; 10 assists from Megan Bauer; and seven assists from Kelly Clucas on Tuesday.

“This match was really fun to watch,” Minooka coach Chris Hoelscher said.

“The girls made some great hustle plays that I haven’t seen them make much this season. 

“That intensified effort on defense helped create a flow on offense, and they just looked great and worked well together. Everyone played a large part in tonight’s victory.”

Coal City def. Sandwich,

25-17, 25-12

Four kills each from Emily Halliday Claire Smith and Britta Spelde, who added two blocks and two aces, led Coal City (16-7, 8-0 Interstate Eight North) on Tuesday.

Nicole Borgetti totaled five blocks and nine digs and Kassie Aldridge two aces, four digs and 16 assists.

The sophomore Lady Coalers won 25-16, 25-15.

Newark def. Hiawatha,

25-13, 25-19

Madison Friestad had five kills and Marissa Friestad 17 assists Tuesday for Newark.

Westmont def. Seneca,

9-25, 25-20, 27-25

Lexi Wilkinson totaled 12 kills Tuesday for the Lady Irish (21-5-1, 6-2 Interstate Eight North).

They also received eight kills, a block, an ace, four digs and 10 assists from Kayla Haines; six kills, four blocks and three digs from Taylor Vandenberg and a kill, four digs and 13 assists from Madison Wyss.

“Let’s just say it was a little bit crazy tonight,” Seneca coach Karen Raney said. “Coming away with a victory on the road, after a 9-25 loss in set one, says a lot.”

The Seneca sophomores (19-6-2, 4-4) lost 25-19, 25-17 despite three kills and two blocks from Willow Stuedemann.

St. Anne def. GSW,

25-15, 20-25, 25-15

Gardner-South Wilmington fell to 11-8 overall and 4-5 in the River Valley Conference on Tuesday.

The sophomore Lady Panthers won 25-7, 25-11 behind four kills and two aces from Lexi Robison and four kills from Mariana Ferrari.

Matt Dlugopolski and Mauro Medina scored Tuesday for Minooka (10-6-2). Giacomo Raimondi had an assist.

Minooka and South tied 1-1 in the sophomore match. and South won the freshman match 4-0.

Shabbona 10

Haley Aukland scored 8 points to lead the Shabbona sixth-grade “A” girls Tuesday.

Ashlyn Williams had 4 points to lead the Shabbona “B” team in a 10-6 win.
