Paul Richard Jansen

Paul Richard Jansen, 62, of Dwight, Ill., passed away peacefully at his home Monday evening, Oct. 21, 2013, with his family at his side.

A celebration of life will be at The Country Mansion in Dwight from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28. Cremation rites have been accorded. A private burial will be in Utica, Ill., at St. Mary’s Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy; its website is http://www.railstotrails.org.

Paul was born June 30, 1951, in LaSalle, Ill., to Virgil and Margery (Munson) Jansen. He graduated from Serena High School and from Illinois State University. He married Barbara R. Cartner at the Ascension Catholic Church in Oak Park, Ill., on July 18, 1970. He worked as a printer at R.R. Donnelly and Son’s since 1980 and was retired from there.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Barbara; his father, Virgil Jansen of Port Orange, Fla.; his daughter, Laura (Gregory) Jansen-Hiss of Chicago; a sister, Carol Bloch of Billings, Mont.; and a brother, Dale (Betty) Jansen of Serena. He also is survived by his grandson, Andrew Hiss.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Margery.

Paul loved to read history books and had a particular interest in the Civil War. He was a Chicago White Sox fan and took joy in watching them win the World Series. He had many interests which included sailing, camping, bicycling and cross country skiing.
