Newark volleyball defeats Mooseheart

Newark defeated Mooseheart, 25-8, 25-12, Tuesday at the Class 1A Hinckley-Big Rock Girls Volleyball Regional.

Now 26-6, the Lady Norsemen got six kills each from Rachael Lape (11 assists); and Kristina Nichols, 15 points, two aces and 14 assists from Marissa Friestad and 18 digs from Mel Kala.

“Other than way too many missed serves, we played pretty well to open regional play,” Newark coach Tonya Grayson said.

Seneca def. Serena,

25-15, 25-11

Seneca won big in semifinal action Tuesday at the 2A Somonauk Regional. It will face Amboy in the championship.

Coal City def. McNamara,

25-22, 25-11

With the win Tuesday in semifinal action at the 3A Manteno Regional, the Lady Coalers will play Thursday against host Manteno for the championship.

Minooka def. Moline,

25-21, 28-26

Minooka advances to the championship at the 4A Ottawa Regional thanks to Tuesday’s semifinal win. There, it will face Rock Island Thursday.
