Sam Siano has been named Morris Hospital’s October Fire Starter of the Month.

Siano, of Gardner, is an associate in the environmental services department at Morris Hospital. She was described as having a magical way of brightening the day of others through her friendly smile, big heart, kind words and positive attitude. She was named Morris Hospital’s Fire Starter of the Month for October.

“Sam puts a smile on my face when I first arrive in the morning, and in my opinion, that smile should make anyone’s day,” said Jacqueline Welsh, a specimen processor for the Morris Hospital Laboratory.

Siano joined the Morris Hospital team in August 2011 after staying home to raise her three daughters. She works at the Morris Hospital Ridge Road Campus, and loves working independently and excels at cleaning, organizing and multitasking.

“Patients always comment on how nice the office looks,” Morris Hospital phlebotomist Robin Smothers said in the news release. “When Sam is working, I see her eye for detail and how much doing a great job means to her. She is committed to excellence every time she clocks in, and she proves it.”

Siano said she is inspired by her co-workers, who express their appreciation for the clean facility, and the patients, who deserve a clean and spotless setting for their health services.

“The facility here is so beautiful,” Siano said. “If I were a patient, I would want to come to a facility that’s very clean. Plus, I enjoy making the doctors, nurses and staff happy to be in a clean facility. This is a great place to work. Everybody here is so supportive. We’re like family.”

In early civilizations, fire starters were the ones to keep the flame alive. As Fire Starter of the Month, Siano received a Grundy County Chamber of Commerce gift certificate, a special “Fire Starter” lapel pin and a designated parking spot for the month.
