Morris senior Kenny Baldridge pinned Nick Mohr of Yorkville in 3:08 for the lone Redskins win against Yorkville on Thursday night.

In the third bout of the night for the Morris wrestling team, Redskins’ 132-pounder Kenny Baldridge recorded a win by fall in 3:08 over Nick Mohr of Yorkville.

Other than that one Baldridge victory, the Foxes came to town for a Northern Illinois Big 12 East Conference meeting and strolled away with a 68-6 victory over the locals.

“Let’s start with the positives,” Morris coach Jon Lanning said right after the match ended. “I liked the conditioning. That looked real good. I don’t think any of the kids walked off the mat tonight dead tired. That wasn’t an issue at all. Our mat presence was really good. There were times where we knew where the out of bounds lines were and we kept them from scoring by getting out of bounds. We also scored off the edge once or twice tonight.

“The negatives. Obviously, Yorkville is a very good team and better than we are. Their experience factors in tonight. They have a lot of returning sectional and state qualifiers. I thought the young guys responded pretty well. I was impressed with Andrew Smith. He was going up against a sectional qualifier and he went right after him. Things didn’t go his way at the end, but he did a nice job and that’s important for a young freshman.”

And Baldridge?

“Obviously Kenny comes to work every day and he’s going to be a guy right there at the end of the year,” Lanning said.

Considering everything, Baldridge was asked if he’s going to feel pressure this year that’s associated with being the one sure thing for the Redskins.

“I think the team needs time. The team needs work. We need to work a little more on the cardio,” Baldridge said. “We’re a little behind, but I think the team has a lot of potential. In time we will have a pretty good team and will be a lot more successful.”

Morris hosts Wilmington on Wednesday and then the Redskins travel to Rochelle on Thursday.
