Coal City to hold annual dodgeball tourney

Published: Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013 5:30 a.m. CDT

Coal City High School will be holding its ninth annual dodgeball tournament Jan. 26 for boys and girls, young and old.

Cost is $40 a team or $5 a person with a maximum of 80 teams allowed. Admission to the event is $2 for spectators.

To enter a team, you need to have at least eight players and to complete and return a registration form and entry fee to Jerry McDowell at CCHS. For information, contact McDowell at 815-735-6387.

Times for the event start with second- and third-graders at 11 a.m. that day and then run through the open division at 5 p.m. Two gyms will be used if necessary.

Games will be played with the old P.E. class rules and the teams can be co-ed. Players can play up a level but not down. Also, individuals can only play on one team. Teams are guaranteed four games, which includes three pool-play contests and that feeds into a single-elimination contest. Any all-girls teams will be paired together in pool play.

The manage of each team is required to get an insurance waiver at the front desk on the day of the tournament and then have each participating members sign it.

The $40 team fee is due Jan. 25.

Also, there will be a sports card and collectible show Jan. 26 from noon until 5 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. For information, contact Terry Gill at 815-634-2456.
