Immaculate Conception School seventh- and eighth-grade students recently participated in the Patriot’s Pen Essay Contest sponsored by the VFW John Martin Steele Post 6049. Two prize-winning essays were selected by the judges, one written by eighth-grader Grace Johnson and the other by seventh-grader Abbie Borgstrom. The winning writers were presented with a monetary award, as well as a medal and a backpack. The presentation of the awards was made by VFW Commander Jerry Belt. Both students and their parents will be guests at a dinner in January. Their essays now advance to the district competition for possible additional awards.
