SENECA – Jazzercise celebrated six years of fitness in Seneca last month.

Jazzercise is the world’s leading dance fitness program, according to a news release. In Seneca it is located at the Seneca Jazzercise Studio, 258 N. Main Street, which offers nine classes weekly.

“Last January as we celebrated our five year anniversary, we moved into a beautiful new studio on Main Street,” instructor and owner Kara Ellis said in the release. “We are on our third location, having outgrown the previous two, and are absolutely thrilled with our current spacious studio. We are proud to have been offering classes in Seneca for six years now and look forward to our future here.”

The Seneca Jazzercise Studio has Main Street exposure and ample parking in the rear lot it shares with Fergy’s Bar and Grill.

“We held our first class in January 2008 with only three students and currently have more than 60 members,” Ellis said in the release.

Seneca Jazzercise currently offers a class schedule that includes nine classes weekly: 8:30 a.m. Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday; 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday and Friday; and 5:40 p.m. Monday and Wednesday.

A 60-minute Jazzercise class offers a fusion of jazz dance, resistance training, Pilates, yoga, kickboxing and Latin-style movements set to a variety of popular music. Each class includes a warm-up, high energy aerobic routines, muscle toning with weights or exercise tubes and cool down stretch segment for people of all ages and fitness levels.

Judi Sheppard Missett, who turned her love of jazz dance into a worldwide dance exercise phenomenon, founded the Jazzercise dance fitness program in 1969. Today the program is an international franchise that hosts a network of 7,800 instructors teaching more than 32,000 classes weekly in 32 countries.
