Grundy County Highway Department clarifies garbage restrictions

Published: Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2014 5:30 a.m. CDT

The Grundy County Highway Department wants to clarify that garbage hauling restrictions are only being implemented for residents living on weight-restricted roads. Highland, Erienna, Nettle Creek and Wauponsee townships are halting trash pickup only on roads with weight limits to prevent garbage trucks from creating potholes and other damage. For example, in Wauponsee Township there are only about 12 homes that will have to bring their garbage to another location. Those homes are off of Lynn, Vanderpool, Gulley and Lund roads – all weight-restricted roads.

Visit www.grundyco.org and click “Quick Links” to view township maps showing which roads have been restricted for garbage pickup and information concerning these road postings.

Residences on weight-restricted roads are asked to bring their garbage to designated drop-off sites.

• In Highland – Old Kinsman Grade School located on Kinsman Road; the Highland Township Garage located at the intersection of Kinsman and Cahill roads.

• In Erienna – 7110 Old Stage Road, located east of Mann’s Floral Shop.

• In Nettle Creek – Nettle Township Building located on Nettle Creek Road.

• In Wauponsee – Wauponsee Township Garage located at Route 47 and Southmor Road.
