Sheriff’s office conducting patrols this weekend

MORRIS – Grundy County Sheriff Kevin Callahan announced his office will conduct special patrols this weekend to crack down on drunk drivers celebrating St. Patrick’s Day.

Unbuckled motorists also will be ticketed, according to a news release from his office. From Thursday through Monday, the sheriff’s office will be working overtime with additional deputies on duty, he said, to catch and arrest anyone driving drunk.

Callahan offered tips to those hosting a St. Patrick’s Day party:

• You can be held liable and prosecuted if someone you serve is involved in a drunk driving crash.

• Make sure all guests designate a sober driver in advance, or help arrange ride-sharing with other sober drivers.

The St. Patrick’s Day crackdown is funded by federal traffic safety funds from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and administered through IDOT’s Division of Traffic Safety.
