Morris senior Haleigh Knapp, shown here last spring, once again won the Northern Illinois Big 12 Indoor Championships on Saturday.

Morris senior Haleigh Knapp won the high jump event at the Northern Illinois Big 12 Indoor Conference Meet on Saturday. The two-time state champion in the event finished by clearing 5-4. Overall, Morris finished eighth as a team with 18 points.

Also for the Redskins, Leona Burton was fourth in the long jump (16-2) and fourth in the 60 meter dash (8.40).

Minooka girls at SPC Indoor Championships

The Minooka track team went to the Southwest Prairie Conference track meet held at Plainfield South on Saturday, running away with the title at the event by 51 points. Oswego was second with 97 team points.

“It was great to see the field events perform at such a high level today,” Minooka coach Kevin Gummerson said. “The girls looked strong on the track.”

The Indians recorded seven firsts on the day with Janile Rogers playing a part in three of them. She won the long jump (18-7.75) and the triple jump (35-1.5) while also running a leg of the 4x200 relay. The group consisted of Emma Tonelli, Latricia Daen, Megan Caldwell and Rogers and they ran to a time of 1:49.71.

Also for the locals, the 4x400 relay team of Bethany Bachmann, Moria McAsey, Mackenzie Callahan and Ashleigh Wilson won with a time of 4:15, Mariah Divis won the pole vault by clearing 8-9, Ashley Tutt won the 1600 run with a time of 5:33.37 and Wilson won the 400 dash with a time of :59.76.

“We realize we have to continue to improve and get better each and every meet,” Gummerson said. “This is a nice victory; however, we must not be satisfied. The goal is to build off each performance and put it together in may.”

Minooka boys at Lockport Invitational

Just the same as the girls did on Saturday, the Minooka boys also won the event they were at by 51 team points after scoring 187.33 points. That was ahead of Glenbard South. The Indians also won the frosh-soph event by 32 points over Lockport.

“We had a number of guys step up today during our last frosh-soph and varsity level invitational until the top times,” Minooka coach Nick Lundin said. “There were many personal records and season bests today.”

For the Minooka varsity, Devin Ingram was involved in three firsts. He topped the field in the 200 meter dash with a time of :04.01, he was first in the 55 meter dash with a time of :06.75 and he also ran a leg of the 4x200 meter relay team that won with a time of 1:38.44. The rest of that team included: Mitch Miller, Victor Turpin and Matt Dlugopolski.
