Mazon mobile food pantry helps families

MAZON – About 115 area families took part in the mobile food pantry sponsored by Mazon State Bank, ITW Filtration and Seco Systems at Mazon City Park on April 9.

With a total of 7,015 pounds of food delivered, each household received about 61 pounds of food, including 40 pounds of frozen meat and a wide variety of other items including canned fruits and vegetables, apples, onions, cauliflower, cereal and bread.

“We appreciate the opportunity to help the people in our area that are in need. I am very thankful that ITW, Seco Systems and Mazon State Bank are always available and willing to step up to the plate when there is a project or event that needs support,” said Michael Breisch, president of Mazon State Bank, in a media release.

The next mobile food pantry is sponsored by Operation St. Nick and will take place May 14 at the Gardner American Legion. Registration will begin at 3:45 p.m. Distribution will begin at 5 p.m.

Any family that resides in Grundy County and is in need of assistance with food is welcome to come to these mobile food pantry events. Attendees are asked to provide proof of their residency either with a valid driver’s license, state identification. or utility bill with their current address. Every person in line will be asked to show this proof, even if they have been to a mobile food pantry in the past.

Those interested in attending are encouraged to bring a container to carry the items they will receive; plastic laundry baskets and wheeled carts work well for this purpose. It is not necessary to RSVP, but for information, call the We Care office at 815-942-6389.

Upcoming mobile food pantry sponsors include Geo’s Pizza and Reeves Funeral Home; Kay Olson and First Christian Church.
